Abstractions

“There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality.” (Pablo Picasso)

“Abstract art is not the creation of another reality but the true vision of reality.” (Piet Mondrian)

Picasso or Mondrian? Or a bit of both? Take your pick. All I’d suggest is that a touch of vitamin C orange with a smatter of traffic light red and a portion of unmellow yellow packs an abstract punch.

The fun for me in taking these sorts of pictures is the honing in on fine detail to unveil shapes and patterns that otherwise often play second fiddle. Now’s their turn to take centre stage.

Clockwise from top left, the four images in this collection are of a radiator at the Technikmuseum in Berlin, hotel lobbies in Berlin and then Paris, and finally a temporary pavilion in London’s Bedford Square.
