Rhythm and harmony

“Rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul” (Plato)

Santiago Calatrava’s work has always fascinated me. Structures he builds - such as the law library at Zurich university and the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia - are more often than not temples to rhythm. I don’t know but I think that in large part this comes down to him being both an architect and an engineer. I imagine this allows him to identify possibilities and pull off risks that others can’t even contemplate.

I have a dream that one day I’ll be able to visit many more of his structures. Milwaukee Art Gallery and the World Trade Centre Transportation Hub are top of the list.
