Modest circumstance
“Even in the most modest circumstances, there is the possibility for emotion and poetry” (Santiago Calatrava)
JiBBR is a photographic quintet - five people from around the world brought together by a passion for photography, whose friendship developed way beyond the camera. We’d meet once or twice a year for long weekends in different European cities.
The name is an acronym - Jörg from Berlin, Barbara from Hannover (b1), Barbara from Zurich (b2) and Rita from Ferrara, with my T becoming an 'i' to fulfil a desperate need for a vowel. I'd gatecrashed the meeting and was there for only a day, so replacing my T for Tom with an i for 'interlude' seemed the right way to go...
One of JiBBR’s best trips was to Valencia - a fantastic 2000-year old city where religions and cultures meet. It’s also the birthplace of architect and civil engineer Santiago Calatrava, and home to one of Calatrava’s most famous structures - the City of Arts and Sciences. A short walk away is the Calatrava-designed Alameda subway station. The picture here is a detail from the beautifully lit ceiling in the station’s ticket hall.
